Bangle sellers are we who bear

আমরা চুড়ি বিক্রেতা যারা বয়ে নিয়ে যায়

Our shining loads to the temple fair…

আমাদের ঝকঝকে বোঝাগুলো মন্দিরের মেলাতে…

Who will buy these delicate, bright

কে কিনবে এই পলকা, উজ্জ্বল

Rainbow-tinted circles of light?

রামধনু রঙের আলোর বৃত্তগুলি?

Lustrous tokens of radiant lives,

উজ্জ্বল জীবনের উজ্জ্বল চিহ্ন,

For happy daughters and happy wives.

সুখী কন্যা আর সুখী স্ত্রীদের জন্য।

 

Some are meet for a maiden’s wrist,

কিছু চুড়ি হয় একজন অবিবাহিত মহিলার কবজির জন্য,

Silver and blue as the mountain mist,

যা পাহাড়ের কুয়াশার মতো রূপালি এবং নীল,

Some are flushed like the buds that dream

কিছু রাঙা হয়ে ওঠে কুঁড়ির মতো যেটা স্বপ্ন দেখে

On the tranquil brow of a woodland stream,

একটা বনভূমির স্রোতের শান্ত কপালে,

Some are aglow with the bloom that cleaves

কিছু হয় ফুলের মতো উজ্জ্বল যেটা বিভক্ত করে

To the limpid glory of new born leaves.

নতুন জন্মানো পাতার নির্মল মহিমাকে।

 

Some are like fields of sunlit corn,

কিছু হয় সূর্যের আলোয় উদ্দীপ্ত শস্য ভরা মাঠের মতো,

Meet for a bride on her bridal morn,

যা একজন বধূর বিবাহের সকালের জন্য উপযুক্ত,

Some, like flame of her marriage fire,

কিছু, তার বিয়ের আগুনের শিখার মতো,

Or, rich with the hue of her heart’s desire,

অথবা, তার হৃদয়ের আকাঙ্খার রঙে সমৃদ্ধ,

Tinkling, luminous, tender, and clear,

ঝলমলে, উজ্জ্বল, কোমল, এবং স্বচ্ছ,

Like her bridal laughter and bridal tear.

তার বিয়ের হাসি ও বিয়ের অশ্রুজলের মতো।

 

Some are purple and gold flecked grey

কিছু হয় বেগুনি এবং সোনালি রঙের ছিটে যুক্ত ধূসর রঙের

For she who has journeyed through life midway,

তার জন্য যে তার জীবনের অর্ধেক পথ যাত্রা করেছে,

Whose hands have cherished, whose love has blest,

যার হাত যত্নে আগলে রেখেছে, যার ভালোবাসা মহিমান্বিত করেছে,

And cradled fair sons on her faithful breast,

এবং সুন্দর সন্তানদের আশ্রয় দিয়েছে তার বিশ্বস্ত হৃদয়ে,

And serves her household in fruitful pride,

এবং ফলপ্রসূ গর্বে তার পরিবারের সেবা করে,

And worships the gods at her husband’s side.

এবং স্বামীর পাশে দেবতাদের পূজা করে।
